GRIPEN
The next interesting plate I found back in Illinois. I thought perhaps it had to do with the person's attitude, but even us experts are wrong sometimes (but at least we admit it). It is an Illinois plate on a red Saab 9000 Aero and the plate says GRIPEN. Bill Baughman corrected my erroneous conclusion that he was "griping" about something. He reports that the Saab Company builds aircraft for Sweden. The Gripen is the name of the interceptor called JAS39 Gripen.
He explained that the Aero is a high performance Saab 9000 which needed a name, i.e. the Gripen, which characterized the high performance in the airplane. The name is only used by a Swedish company and incidentally is a Saab.
